UFE National Championships 2009

It is no doubt that UFE raised the bar in fitness events in 2009 asserting itself as the top drug tested fitness organization in Canada and one of the top fitness organizations in North America. Promising to go out with a bang to end the contest season, UFE did just that. On Saturday November 14th, the show started with a morning Elite qualifying event that drew a number of competitors looking to qualify for UFE’s coveted Elite division before the year was over. Also joining them were some Elite division competitors, mainly qualified from other organizations, looking to feel out the show and UFE’s competition standards. It was a good look into some of the amazing bodies that would grace the stage later that evening and a sneak peak at a few newcomers that would surprise everyone!

In the evening, it was time for the best of the best to take to the stage. Competitors came from across Canada and the US, representing different organizations to prove who truly were the best bodies in the industry. The show started off with an electifying opening act from Team 2Xtreme that had the audience raising the roof. It is the kind of energy and excitement that UFE has become known for in the industry as the leader in fitness entertainment. The show then continued the energy as the high flying Elite Fitness category competitors took to the stage. This category featured Olympic silver medalist, 3 time Miss Fitness World and defending Ultimate Champion Vanda Hadarean looking to defend last year’s title and that she did, becoming the 2009 Fitness Ultimate Champion; could this prove that Vanda is unbeatable? Only time will tell as she goes for her 3-peat in 2010. We look forward to seeing some of the best in fitness test their medal against the defending champion. In the Elite Men’s Bodybuilding division, it was former IFBB Pro and current IDFA Pro, Erik Alstrup who overcame an extremely challenging bodybuilding category to become UFE’s 2009 Men’s Bodybuilding Ultimate Champion by bringing a shredded physique and awesome charisma to the stage. The Elite Women’s Bodybuilding category was another great one this year and at the end of the night it was a showdown between Texas’ Drexel Long, affirming the stereotype that everything is bigger in Texas with her well muscled physique, and the ultra shredded Lorie Noiles from New Brunswick. Lorie came out on top this time and was crowned the 2009 Women’s Bodybuilding Ultimate Champion. Emily Pantaleo has finished 2009 on a tear! Three weeks prior, Emily had won the Bikini Model category at the enormous UFE Halloween Mayhem show, beating out nearly 30 other competitor. She then decided to do the Open portion of the National Championships to warm herself up for the evening and, again, took the win. Finally, in the evening, Emily just shone on stage and was a unanimous winner to become the 2009 Bikini Model Ultimate Champion. Amazingly, it was 3 first timers who captured titles in the evening. Karyn Marchment, Julian Scott and Sarah McNaughton all competed in the Elite Qualifier in the morning for the first time ever! Each of them won their respective categories which was great, but they were about to walk into one of the most competitive shows in the industry. Well that they did, and they did it in a big way beating out seasoned verterans of the industry, including competitors who have had prominent features in major industy mags including Inside Fitness Magazine, Oxygen, Maximum Fitness and more.

When the dust settled, Canadian competitors held on to every one of the Ultimate Champion titles while the best of the best from UFE managed to capture 4 of the 7 titles, bettering their total of 3 titles in 2008. Congratulations to the competitors representing IDFA, Miss Fitness World and New Brunswick’s provincial affiliate of the CBBF on capturing titles in their respective categories. We look forward to the challenge next year as this event continues to grow!

It all made for a great show and a great close-out to 2009. UFE is extremely proud of all of our competitors, not only for the hard work and determination they showed in making it to the contest stage, but the class they conducted themselves with on the stage and behind the stage. UFE is very grateful for the competitors that we were blessed with this year and the amazing audience support at each show. Keep in mind that this is only UFE’s second full contest season in existence…we’re just warming up
